Overview

The Alabama Women in Jazz Festival is a program presented annually showcasing local, state and regional top-tier female jazz musicians. This year's headliner is Freda Payne, recognized by her 1970s hits, Band of Gold and Bring the Boys Home.  In this 100th anniversary of Ella Fitzgerald, Payne is touring with a tribute that includes personal stories and some of her most memorable songs.

Paula Atherton, sax player/vocalist and songwriter, has shared the stage with such contemporary jazz notables as The Rippingtons and Nick Colionne.

BJ  Miller, singer, composer, keyboard and trombone player, will bring a hint of blues to the festival this year. Miller has played with Ronnie Laws, Bloodstone, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Pointer, Roy Ayers and Johnny "Guitar" Watson.
