Art with a View: Monte Sano Art Festival Welcomes 150 artists to State Park
- The visual arts festival will be held Saturday, September 16th & Sunday, September 17th

Huntsville, AL - Breathtaking views will complement captivating visual art at Monte Sano State Park, September 16th and 17th at Arts Huntsville’s Monte Sano Art Festival, presented by Merrill Lynch. A Huntsville tradition, the juried art festival will welcome 150 visual art exhibitors from 9 states, local food vendors, music, and a creative kids activity. This year, 45 exhibiting artists are new to the festival.

Monte Sano Art Festival will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 17th. The festival is free to attend, however Monte State Park will charge $10 per car for parking, cash only. Walk-in festival attendees will be charged $5 per person for entrance into the state park.

Founded in 1999, the Monte Sano Art Festival was created for the cultural benefit of the community by volunteers who lived in the mountain neighborhood surrounding the state park. In 2015, Arts Huntsville joined with the local volunteer team to manage the programming and logistics of the art show. In 2016, Arts Huntsville expanded the festival to two days in response to the community’s tremendous interest in the event.

“We are thrilled to see how this festival evolves each year and how our community embraces these talented visual artists,” said Allison Dillon-Jauken, executive director of Arts Huntsville. “Whether you’re an art aficionado or looking to purchase your first piece, Monte Sano Art Festival is the perfect venue to discover art in every medium from painting to photography, sculpture, pottery, fabric arts, glasswork, mixed-media and more, while taking in the beautiful views from atop Monte Sano Mountain.”

This year’s festival will once again feature local food trucks and vendors, including: Rollin’ Lobstah, Kudzu Café, What’s Popp’N, Suzy’s Pops, Buffalo Rock, Nothing Bundt Cakes, The Brrr-ista, Iceworks, and Piper & Leaf. Throughout the weekend performances by Winslow Davis, Jimmy Henderson, Wanda Wesolowski, Karen Newsum, Mike Slaten, Michael Osborn, and Cassandra Mitchell will be featured at the pavilion and on the bluff.

This year’s festival is presented by Merrill Lynch, with additional support from BBVA Compass Bank, The Little Green Store, Spirited Art, and Xfinity.
