Huntsville Botanical Garden announces opening of Nature Unframed art experience
Interactive outdoor art exhibit featuring Alabama artists opens June 5

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (May 26, 2026) – Huntsville Botanical Garden (HBG) invites guests to experience the Garden in a new way with the debut of Nature Unframed, a long-term outdoor art initiative opening to the public on June 5, 2026. The exhibit will remain through Oct. 31, 2026, and is included with regular Garden admission.

Located along the Garden’s scenic Dogwood Trail, Nature Unframed transforms the landscape into a living gallery through interactive installations inspired by plants, natural systems, and the rhythms of the living world. Featuring the work of four Alabama artists, the exhibit encourages guests to explore the intersection of art, nature, science, and play through sculpture, sound, light, and immersive experiences.

“Nature Unframed represents an exciting evolution in how we connect people to plants,” said VP of Learning and Public Engagement Rebecca Turk. “By integrating art directly into the landscape, we’re creating opportunities for curiosity, creativity, and deeper engagement with the natural world for visitors of all ages.”

The exhibit features four large-scale installations by Alabama artists:

  • Bouquet of Dogwood Flowers by Chris Boyd Taylor, a sculptural pergola inspired by the native dogwood tree and designed as a place for reflection and gathering.

  • Kaleidoscope Telescope by Eric Nubbe, an interactive optical sculpture that reframes views of the Garden through light, reflection, and color.

  • Unus Mundus by Jennifer Moore, a collaborative musical installation featuring steel Fungiphone drums inspired by fungal networks and interconnected ecosystems.

  • Spiral Power by Ari Loucks and Steve Loucks, a walk-through spiral sculpture inspired by Fibonacci patterns and growth structures found throughout nature.

Designed for families, adults, and multigenerational audiences, Nature Unframed encourages exploration and repeat visits throughout the summer and fall seasons. Guests can also discover large photo frames placed throughout the Garden and share their experience using the hashtag #NatureUnframed.

The initiative reflects Huntsville Botanical Garden’s continued investment in immersive experiences and partnerships with regional creatives. By featuring artists working within Alabama and the surrounding region, the exhibit reinforces the Garden’s role as a place where art, nature, and community intersect.
