The Galaxy of Lights at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens is a “can’t miss” event around the holidays, and it’s easy to see why! For a few weeks every year, larger-than-life light displays take over the gardens to delight all. The tradition started in 1996, meaning this is the 21st annual Galaxy of Lights! Although the event takes place during a time when visiting outdoor gardens isn’t as popular, the Galaxy of Lights is actually the garden’s biggest fundraising event. It’s staffed by volunteers, too!

Holiday Traditions

Bundling into the car, sipping hot cocoa, listening to Christmas music, and driving through the Galaxy has been on my family’s holiday agenda for years. We all have our favorite displays and love finding them each year. There are six miles of luminaries with over 750 pieces on display. Plus,  they’re never laid out in the same order two years in a row.

Driving Night Information

Driving nights run November 23 - December 31 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and costs $25 per car up to 10 people. You can buy your ticket at the Garden beforehand, online, or on the night of. Several nights are discounted to only $20 per car, so make sure you check the website for those nights.

The Galaxy of Lights is a Huntsville staple. You can enjoy the lights from the warmth of your own car. Plus you'll know that you’re giving back to the garden at the same time. We all have our favorite displays, and I’d love to hear yours. Let me know down in the comments!
