Dogs are man’s best friend, and who wouldn’t want to go out and do fun things with their best friend? Madison County is a very dog-friendly place, and in this video I’ll show you some of my favorite things to do with my pooch.

Visit a Dog Park
Madison County hosts several off-leash dog parks, and the one closest to my parents’ house is the Indian Creek dog park off of Slaughter Road. There are two sections: one for dogs over 25 lbs and one for smaller dogs. Each side has pools of water for thirsty pups, trash cans and poop bags for cleanup, and even a pavilion with picnic tables for tired humans. It’s so great to socialize your dog, and this park has a lot of room to run off extra energy as well! It’s right next to Indian Creek, so if your pup wants to get his paws wet, it’s close by!
Hiking a Local Trail
There is no shortage of beautiful trails in Madison County, and hiking is a great way to get some exercise with your canine companion. There are plenty of things to sniff along the way, and the fresh fall air is so nice! I took my brand new puppy Luna on the old Bankhead Parkway on Monte Sano. Parking was easy to find, the temperature was perfect, and the flat, paved road was perfect for her little legs! While we didn’t make it all the way up, I think she had a great time!
The USSRC Biergarten
Looking for the best dinner view in town, hands-down? Then you and your pooch should grab some grub at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Biergarten. You can indulge in authentic German food and beer, listen to German music, and hang out with your hound on the patio under the Saturn V rocket. Admission is free, and some of the proceeds from the purchase of your food goes toward a different charity every week. You can visit the Biergarten on Thursday nights from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. through October 20th.
These three activities are so much fun, but there is a lot more to do in Madison County with your dog! Several of our local breweries are dog-friendly, and some restaurants and hotels allow you to bring your pet, too. If you want to go shopping, Bridge Street Town Center has several stores that allow you to bring your dog in- just look for the little paw print on the store door or window! There is so much to do in Madison County with your dog, so get out there and have fun!

Katie Wright is a southerner, an explorer, a student, and an old lady at heart. She was born and raised in the south, but abandoned her homeland during her early twenties for the allure of places such as New Zealand and Northern England. After completing her studies, she returned to the sweet sunny south and is now an archaeologist by day and a blogger/vlogger by night. Other hobbies include baking, crocheting, researching local history (like I said… old lady), and putting things in her online shopping cart and then never buying them.
