Whether you are new to the over 65 miles of Land Trust of North Alabama hiking trails or want to explore them more deeply, the spring Guided Hike Series is for you. All hikes are free and you do not need to be a Land Trust member to join in the fun.
Led by experts and experienced hikers, whether your interest in birds, critters, plants or just a good workout, the series has events to suit all tastes and hiking abilities.
For novice and more casual hikers, you can watch the spring bird migration with John Ehinger at the Whitaker Preserve (Alabama Birding Trail, Site 40) along an easy grassland trail. Or search for frogs, toads and other herps with Alabama A&M Biology & Environmental Science/Wildlife Program Assistant Andrew Cantrell on the moderately difficult Alum Trail at the Green Mountain Nature Preserve. For a long, strenuous hike into Monte Sano’s long history, Bruce Martin will guide hikers 9 miles through Monte Sano State Park and the Monte Sano Nature Preserve. (Park entry fees apply.)

What to Wear: Sturdy, comfortable closed toes shoes and long pants. Hiking sticks are also helpful on more difficult terrain.
What to Bring: Sunscreen, bug spray and drinking water. Snacks and your camera are recommended as well.
Leashed dogs are welcome on Land Trust properties. Each guided hike event is free but donations are appreciated to help support the Land Trusts’ mission to plan, preserve, and provide stewardship for green space in North Alabama. Hikes are cancelled in the event of rain; check their Facebook page for event status before leaving home.
