Burritt on the Mountain promises an extra-special day for bird enthusiasts:
Feather ID workshop (Ages 14 and up only) 9:30am-10:45am This workshop will cover feather identification of North American birds with feather specimens from [Alabama A&M University’s] and/or [Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge] collection. Other topics include feather morphology, flight dynamics and wing design, feather development, structure, pigments, and specialized feathers. This course is designed for ages 14 and up, all skill levels, especially birders and naturalists.
Audubon Bird Watching Hike (All ages) 11:00am-12:30pm AND 2:15pm-3:45pm Birding 101: This beginner birding hike includes techniques for using binoculars and quick tips for spotting and identifying birds. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars but the hike leader will have some available.
Tommy Howell Bird Encounter Nature Program “Beauties of the Sky”. (All Ages) 1:00pm-2:00pm This outstanding collection of unusual birds will impress you! This fun and educational outing will fascinate the entire family. PLEASE NOTE: Seating is limited and we will only be able to seat the first 75 people. No one will be admitted after the show starts. Last year this event was a sellout, so don’t delay. The doors open at 12:30pm.
