Described by the L.A. Times as a “mad monster mash for goofy singer and goofy orchestra,” Austrian composer H. K. Gruber’s Frankenstein!! (1979) invokes many of pop culture’s best-known boogeymen and superheroes. Ron Roberts lends his thespian and vocal talents to our performance of Gruber’s quirky masterwork, as well as William Walton’s Façade, a setting of experimental poetry by Edith Sitwell.

The HSO is the oldest, continuously operating professional orchestra in the state of Alabama. The Orchestra’s genesis is intricately linked with the arrival of Wernher von Braun and his German rocket team, marking the beginning of an era of sensational growth in our city and creating a unique synthesis between old and new, cherished traditions and unprecedented progress.
