Twickenham Historic District contains scores of outstanding early 19th-century homes dating from 1814. Early merchants, bankers & attorneys built fashionable brick homes, many of which were seized during the Civil War in 1862-1865 by the Union Army. The occupation saved the houses from destruction. The Old Town district, north of the Square, contains many fine Victorian homes. Charming bungalows dominate the Five Points district. Madison's historic district dates from the mid-19th century. Purchases or rentals of a self-guided CD of the Twickenham Historic District are available in our Visitor's Center.

Huntsville Botanical Garden - There's always something growing on! The Huntsville Botanical Garden is a beautiful 110-acre site with stunning floral collections, inviting woodland paths and broad grassy meadows. This unique museum of regional history is housed in the mountaintop home of Dr. William Henry Burritt. The remarkable 14-room mansion built in the shape of an X in the 1930's is insulated with 2,200 bales of wheat straw. The Historic Park contains restored farm buildings which interpret rural life during 1850 and 1900. Many nature trails wind through heavily wooded forest. MUSEUM - Humphrey's Rodgers House

David C. Humphreys built the original three-bay structure at the corner of Clinton and Monroe Streets in 1848. With historic preservation efforts, the house was donated to the Alabama Constitution Village Foundation by Coca-Cola Inc. and carefully moved to its current location fronting Gates Avenue in 1991. Now fully restored, the house displays period rooms and special exhibits on the decorative arts. Notable features of the house are the large pocket doors and 11 foot ceilings. The grand staircase and paneled hallway are faux grained to represent antique oak.

The Museum is dedicated to promoting and disseminating the accomplishments of American military men and women. Our emphasis is on participants of World War I and subsequent conflicts, whose survivors and families can use the Museum facilities to reminisce on their own experiences and those of parents, grandparents, and other close relatives. The Museum displays more than 30 historical military vehicles from World War I to the present, as well as tableaus, artifacts, and other memorabilia.

The first thing you notice about Cathedral Caverns is the massive entrance. The huge opening measures 126 feet wide and 25 feet high. And it gets even better. Inside the cavern, you will find Big Rock Canyon, Mystery River and some of the most beautiful formations Mother Nature has ever created. Among them, you will see Stalagmite Mountain, The Frozen Waterfall and Goliath, a huge stalagmite column that reaches the ceiling of the cave some 45 feet above!
