HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) will present WARHOL: film, fashion, photography from July 31 through Oct. 18, 2026, offering visitors an expansive look at one of the most influential artists of the 20th century through more than 150 works spanning illustration, film, fashion, photography and printmaking.
WARHOL: film, fashion, photography is organized by the Huntsville Museum of Art with support from Art Bridges. Founded by Alice Walton, Art Bridges partners with museums across the United States to lend and share American art.
The exhibition explores the dazzling universe of Andy Warhol, where art and celebrity collide, examining how the artist shaped and was shaped by the visual culture of his era. Visitors will encounter iconic screenprints featuring enduring cultural figures including Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Grace Jones and John Wayne, as well as Warhol's instantly recognizable Campbell's Soup Can. The exhibition also features celebrated Polaroid portraits of influential cultural figures, providing insight into Warhol's fascination with fame, repetition and mass media.
Fashion takes center stage throughout the exhibition with a selection of Warhol's whimsical fashion illustrations from the 1950s, works that launched his artistic career before he became an international pop art icon. Also on view are couture garments by renowned designers Diane von Furstenberg and Halston, showcasing Warhol's lasting influence on the fashion industry and his collaborations with leading designers.
Film and photography further illuminate Warhol's creative world through a screening of Poor Little Rich Girl (1965), starring Edie Sedgwick, along with photographs by Stephen Shore, Nat Finkelstein, David McCabe, Billy Name, Christopher Makos and Evelyn Hofer. Together, these works offer a rare glimpse inside Warhol's legendary Factory and the vibrant community of artists, performers and tastemakers that surrounded him.
"Andy Warhol forever changed the way we think about art, celebrity and popular culture," said Huntsville Museum of Art Executive Director Christopher Madkour. "This exhibition brings together an extraordinary collection of works that captures the breadth of his creative vision while inviting audiences to experience the energy, innovation and cultural impact that continue to make Warhol relevant today."
As a complement to the exhibition, on Thursday, Oct. 1, HMA will host a special evening with Vincent Fremont, one of Warhol's longtime associates and a leading authority on the artist's life and legacy. The program will begin with a lecture from 6 to 7 p.m. in Loretta Spencer Hall, followed by a reception from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 9. HMA members enjoy a discount on tickets to the event among other savings.
