Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) will celebrate the opening of its “Connections: Stephen Paul Day | Sibylle Peretti” exhibition with a gallery walk and reception on Sunday, October 20, from 2-4 p.m.
The Museum’s “Connections” exhibition, the sixth installment of the series, focuses on contemporary artists linked in terms of subject matter and sensibility. New Orleans artists Stephen Paul Day and Sibylle Peretti create works that revolve around themes of childhood, nature, innocence, and loss. Artist Stephen Paul Day creates skillfully executed paintings and sculptures that are whimsical and charming, reflecting aspects of his boyhood as well as folktale symbolism. Artist Sibylle Peretti creates glass sculptures and multimedia collages that combine photography and drawing with surface techniques such as engraving, mirroring, and glass slumping.
“I think the upcoming exhibition will be fascinating for viewers,” remarked HMA Director of Curatorial Affairs Peter Baldaia. “It relates in many ways to what’s happening in popular culture at this moment, with such an emphasis on storytelling through myth, fairy tales, and looking back in time — all expressed with a distinctive Gothic edge.”
Visitors can experience the exhibition from October 20, 2019, through February 9, 2020.
