HUNTSVILLE, AL – [October 6, 2026] – A North Alabama tradition dating back to 2001, the WhistleStop BBQ Festival returns to the MidCity District for the fourth year, promising two days of music, food and community. Presented by the Apollo Coalition, the festival will be held Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 on the festival lot located on the southeast side of the district along Old Monrovia Road. The festival opens to the public at 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. Weekend passes are $20 per person, or $10 for a single-day pass if purchased in advance, with prices increasing at the gate. Children 12 and under enter free of charge.
The festival will fill the air with the smoke of competitive barbeque and the sounds of local talent. The two-day event features an amateur barbeque contest sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. More than 40 teams from across the southeast will compete for the Grand Champion prize of $2,000 cash. Competition categories include ribs, chicken and dessert. Registration for the dessert competition is open to the public.
WhistleStop's general admission tickets grant entry to the event to enjoy live music and local vendors. They also provide access to the Pigpen, where young attendees can enjoy fun all weekend long. Tickets do not include complimentary barbeque to all attendees, however ticket holders can receive free barbeque tastings by participating in the People's Choice competitions. The People’s Choice events are chicken wings on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. and pulled pork Saturday starting at 2:00p.m. After tasting the goods from the barbeque teams, attendees vote through a QR code available throughout the festival. People's Choice tastings are complimentary with festival admission and only available during designated times and while supplies last.
Local bands will take the festival stage throughout the weekend. Friday's lineup kicks off with Nashville singer Travis Bowlin from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by popular local band Milltowne from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with Huntsville fan favorite The Brooklines headlining at 9 p.m. Saturday's stage opens with The Grasstronauts at 11:30 a.m., followed by Josh Allison at 1 p.m. and Lana White & the Heights at 2:30 p.m., leading into a 60-minute closing set from viral sensation Buck'd Up at 4:30 p.m.
“The WhistleStop BBQ Festival is a fantastic example of the Apollo Coalition’s mission brought to life,” said Joanna White, Managing Director of the Coalition. “It’s where food and music combine to showcase the creativity of our community, whether in front of a grill or on the stage, all to support the work we do supporting the best and brightest in North Alabama.”
“WhistleStop captures exactly what we hoped MidCity would become: a place where the whole community gathers,” said Lindsey Pattillo Keane, Executive Director of the MidCity Association. “We’re proud to host this tradition in the District each fall.”
