While Huntsville may be best known for its achievements in aerospace, our city's musical heartbeat is just as strong. We have managed to cultivate a rich assortment of live musical experiences that spans from intimate post-industrial spaces to world-class amphitheaters. Local artists and touring acts alike find warmth across our city, fostering community through shared musical experiences.

The diversity of Huntsville's music venues reflects the city's unique character. Each location tells its own story through distinctive architecture, atmosphere, and programming. From our historic mills-turned-cultural-hubs to our modern, professional performance spaces, to breathtaking mountain views and concerts outside of caves, there's a venue for nearly all tastes and budgets!

Stovehouse

The transformation of the former Stove factory into Stovehouse represents Huntsville's imaginative gift for breathing new life into historic industrial landmarks. Stovehouse is centered around the "leisure lawn food garden," where diverse dining options surround an outdoor stage that serves as the anchor to the whole complex.

From traditional rocking chairs and playful swings to sunken amphitheater-style seating that wraps around the performance area, there are seating options for everyone. Stovehouse serves up a broad variety of genres, featuring everything from folk and country to R&B and alternative rock, with the added appeal of free admission to many events! For those seeking a little extra, the Electric Belle hosts ticketed events including DJ sets, dance parties, and specialty band performances!

Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment

Operating within an old shoe manufacturing facility, Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment has earned distinction as the nation's largest privately-owned arts facility and Lowe Mill's signature "Concert on the Docks" series has been an anchor for Huntsville's live music scene since 2007, transforming Friday evenings into community celebrations. These weekly gatherings, running from 6-9 PM, take place on the mill's former loading docks, which overlook a scenic lawn area with a historic water tower.

For just ten dollars a vehicle, your family can enjoy the all-ages atmosphere and even picnic on the grass while the band plays. The venue is designed to accommodate all visitors, and the historic mill features a period elevator operated by an attendant for those who wish to explore the upstairs restaurants, art galleries, and stores.

The Camp

The Camp offers a uniquely Alabama approach to live music, combining outdoor recreation aesthetics with professional entertainment. The venue's design embraces its unique setting, with circular seating that connect like campsites, creating a relaxed, casual environment for concerts and outdoor markets alike!

The semi-covered space allows for year-round programming while maintaining connection to the natural scenery. Concert-goers can enjoy views of the sky through tent-like coverings while feeling the breeze move through surrounding trees. Weekend live music is complemented by varied weeknight entertainment, supported by comprehensive dining options including a full-service restaurant, bar, coffee shop, and an excellent array of food trucks.

The Orion Amphitheatre

The Orion has quickly established itself as a premier music destination nationally, earning broad recognition from industry publications and organizations. Among other recognitions, Rolling Stone Magazine has featured the venue, and it's been awarded Billboard magazine's designation as Top East Coast Amphitheater! Hosting major touring artists and community events, the 8,000-seat venue occupies a prime location in Huntsville's mid-city district.

The facility's design maximizes natural acoustics, putting to good use the venue's shape and construction materials to deliver superior sound. Though some shows can get fairly warm in the middle of the Summer, the open-air setting creates a connection between performers, audience, and Alabama's expansive skies, and it's a beautiful experience! My husband is still raving about finally getting to see his childhood favorite, Men without Hats, at the Orion last year. Other notable performances include Styx, Kansas, 38 Special, Willie Nelson, Weird Al, Phish, and Mumford and Sons.

The Von Braun Center (Propst Arena, Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, and Mars Music Hall)

The Von Braun Center houses multiple venues within a single multi-purpose facility, seamlessly transitions between sports, national concerts, and community events, sometimes hosting multiple simultaneous performances!

The Propst Arena is its flagship venue, accommodating approximately 10,000 guests with state-of-the-art technology, ideal for major touring productions, hosting artists ranging from Alabama and Hardy to Chris Tomlin and John Fogerty. Upcoming performances include A Day to Remember, Yellowcard, and Skillet.

The Mark C. Smith Concert Hall provides an elevated atmosphere perfect for focused listening, like Broadway musicals and symphony performances. Seating just shy of 2,000, the venue has welcomed acts like the Gaither Vocal Band, Nickel Creek, and Huntsville's own Symphony Orchestra.

Mars Music Hall is my husband's favorite venue because there's not a bad seat in the house - the layout is wider than it is deep! Mars also features a balcony and an open floor plan. Recent performances have included country-rock favorites Drive-by Truckers, indie artists Pedro the Lion, and even the Devil Wears Prada. Upcoming notable performances include Bruce Hornsby, Cannibal Corpse, and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde's Black Sabbath tribute, Zakk Sabbath!

Three Caves

Three Caves

Concerts at Three Caves have been an annual Huntsville tradition going back almost two decades. Previously featuring artists like Edwin McCain and Toni Braxton, hosted by the Land Trust of North Alabama, the unique, outdoor venue makes it a profound, memorable experience. An active limestone quarry until the mid-40s, set at the base of the beautiful Monte Sano Nature Preserve, Three Caves is an experience like no other! Though there are no more performances currently on the books for 2025, the most recent show was Red Flags, with The Band Silhouette opening. *Note: The site is only accessible during specific land trust events and serves as a private or designated venue space on a limited number of days each year.

Tangled Strings

Tangled String Studios

To quote their own website, Tangle String Studios Live Room "...was designed by musicians, for the musician." Featured on PBS, Southern Living, and AL.com, Tangled is recognized as a notable live music venue in Alabama and offers something special for the Huntsville area. Located at Lowe Mill, live performances at Tangled are for the serious music lover who wants to pay close attention to the lyrics and/or performance. Think of it as a quality "listening room", akin to the famous Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA.

Burritt Music

Burritt on the Mountain

No place in Huntsville takes you to another time and place quite like Burritt on the Mountain. It's transplanted historic buildings, with live re-enactors in period dress during special events, and an unparalleled view of the city below. There's no place else quite like it!

Their City Lights and Stars concert series is in its 32nd season, and one visit will tell you why. They pair unique musical offerings with good wine and an unforgettable view, making it an evening of pure magic! Performances range from bluegrass, folk, roots rock, and even some occasional hippie vibes. Every concert comes with dinner, and a quality bar is also available, if you're looking for special drinks with dinner!

What makes this series even more special is knowing that your attendance directly supports Burritt's exceptional educational programs that serve the entire community.
