Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint
Have you ever dreamed of a burger topped with whipped brie? Sandwiched between a glazed doughnut? Dripping with hot honey? You need to pull up a stool at Jack Brown’s in downtown Huntsville.
The Southern bar chain uses 100% wagyu beef for its burgers, which are tasty in the simplest form. But why go simple when you can order something like the Greg Brady, topped with mac and cheese and barbecue chips, or the Cobra Kai, with cream cheese and jalapeno jelly?
Vegetarians beware; this place is all about beef with limited options for non-meat eaters.
Peppered Pig
Dubbed the “smokin’ burger joint,” the Peppered Pig in Jones Valley serves up its creative concoctions on ciabatta buns. Order a Bacon Bomb for a sky-high stack of meat topped with fried cheddar, crispy jalapenos, and Boursin aioli, or the Bulgogi Burger for a patty marinated in Korean barbecue sauce layered with fried sesame sushi, kimchi, and grilled scallions.
This is a safe space to bring non-burger eaters, too. The menu offers sandwiches, salads, tacos, and wings.
Bubby’s Diner
The checkered floors, red stool, and jukebox at Bubby’s Diner will make you feel like you’ve stepped straight onto the set of “Grease.” But the retro vibes aren’t the only thing this classic cafe has going for it. The self-proclaimed “home of the doughnut burger” serves up a beef patty topped with crispy bacon and melty cheese on a sticky, delicious glazed bun.
Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar
Bad Daddy’s may be a chain (they’ve got two locations in Madison County), but that doesn’t make it any less delicious. You can build your own burger here or pick from specials like the Sam I Am with an over-easy egg, smoked bacon, and pesto or the Heat Wave topped with pepper jack, jalapeno bacon, poblano frites, and habanero mustard.
The best part? If beef isn’t your thing, you can pick a different protein for your burger, including chicken breast, turkey or black bean patties, and salmon filets.
Supper Heroes
Huntsvillians beware — Supper Heroes serves up some of the best burgers in town. This superhero-themed joint offers a creative menu of comic book burgers (plus lots of fun art and posters to look at while you’re there). The “Huntsvillian” is the signature burger, served on a brioche bun stuffed with pepper jack cheese, fried jalapenos, and sweet and spicy pepper jelly.
Cheeseburger Bobby’s
Burgers and shakes? Yes, please. This small chain based in Georgia has just one Alabama location in Jones Valley, and it’s a can’t-miss on your burger tour of Huntsville.
Cheeseburger Bobby’s is all about customization. Start with a patty (beef, turkey, veggie, and impossible burgers are all on the menu), and then take it to the toppings bar to get creative and pile on your favorites.
Thirsty Turtle
The Thirsty Turtle claims to have the “best burger in town,” and it’s worth a try to find out for yourself. Tucked away in an unassuming shopping plaza on Whitesburg Drive, the laid-back sports bar and deli serves up a simple B.Y.O. Turtle Burger you can customize with a choice of toppings.
Ale’s Kitchen
With a menu of “inventive culinary wonders” that run the gamut from Southern barbecue poutine to kimchi pork tacos, Ale’s Kitchen serves up the perfect brewery bites for Straight to Ale at Campus 805. Meat lovers can bite into the hefty Bistro Burger for a half-pound patty layered with thick-cut bacon, cheddar cheese, and crispy onions or the El Diablo Burger, spiced up with jalapenos and a creamy avocado sauce.
Farm Burger
The magic behind Farm Burger’s delicious dishes starts with the meat. The regional chain sources grass-fed and hormone and antibiotic-free beef from Southeastern farms. Take that and add a whole slate of creative toppings (caramelized onions, pimento cheese, smoked paprika mayo), and you’ve got a completely customized burger. Plus, non-beef eaters can swap what’s in the bun for a spicy cheddar wurst, chicken, or housemade vegan patty.
Little Diner
For the times you just want to pop into a low-key local spot and chow down on a simple and delicious burger — Little Diner is here for ya. Their claim to fame is the Happy Burger, a giant stack of meat with classic fixings like lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Or jazz it up with coleslaw or spicy kimchi on top.
Big Spring Cafe
The “home of the greasy burger,” Big Spring Cafe is a breakfast and lunch diner dishing out a traditional and simple stack of beef. You can order a classic cheeseburger with standard toppings or make it extra meaty with the double chili burger. The slaw dogs and onion rings are also a can’t-miss.
