It’s no secret that the Rocket City is one of the most creative, artistic communities around. In fact, we are home to the largest privately owned arts facility in the United States—Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. As a city that boasts incredible talent, we look to find ways of incorporating beautiful, thought-provoking, and entertaining art displays throughout the area. Whether it’s a stunning urban mural, or a carefully crafted sculpture, Huntsville makes sure you know it’s got you covered when it comes to creativity.

So where can you find some of the most amazing public art in the city? Here are just a few places you should check out!

Clinton Row Color Walk

Hidden in Downtown Huntsville off Clinton Row is an Instagrammer’s dream when it comes to capturing urban, colorful public art. The Clinton Row Color Walk is the perfect spot to marvel at the talent we have in Huntsville. Grab a cup of coffee from nearby Honest Coffee Roasters, and take a stroll down the most colorful alley in town!

Big Spring Park Murals

The heart of Huntsville, its downtown neighborhood, has seen much growth over the last few years. What has made the area more appealing? In addition to new restaurants, shops, and businesses, downtown has added art installations and creative placemaking.

So where can you see more public art in the area? Be sure to head over to Spring Street to see the Koi Mural that the locals talk about. Designed to be 3-D when looking from the right angle, you’ll see the fish of Big Spring Park jump right off the wall.

And don’t forget the Huntsville mural by Gracie Lenox Designs. It’s a great photo-op for families who want to catalog their trip to the Rocket City. Be sure to post your picture on social media and tag with #HelloHSV!

SPACES Sculpture Trail

The SPACES Sculpture trail includes 39 total sculptures and features the work of 22 artists from 12 states!

A collaboration between Arts Huntsville, Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Museum of Art, and Lowe Mill ARTS and Entertainment, the SPACES project is a large-scale public art installation that will bring out your inner artist. You can even download the official SPACES app to make the experience more entertaining and educational.

Campus No. 805 Mural

Many people know Campus 805 to be the perfect place for a night out with friends. And the redeveloped Stone Middle School has plenty of surprises in store for visitors—including its well-hidden speakeasy. While you’re there, be sure to check out the mural by Chandler Hayes from Honest Aerosol.  It’s brilliant colors and distinctive design pair perfectly with the Straight to Ale posters, fun wall décor, and a nice pint of Monkeynaut (of course)!

Liquor Express Mural

Located on University Drive, Liquor Express shows off more than just its amazing brews and spirits.  If you have a spare moment before walking inside, be sure to check out the spectacular mural, painted by Robert Bean, that’s displayed in the store’s front parking lot. The mural showcases a gorgeous outdoor scene complete with a moon and astronaut—doesn’t get more “Rocket City” than that. The blue truck driving into the sunset will surely inspire you.

And if you’re looking for even more fun, check out Professor Robert Bean’s painting classes that take place at Liquor Express on Wednesday nights. You can get more information here.
